 "The Colbert Report"
POSTED BY MEGHAN

Hey everyone!

What a crazy four weeks. I love hearing from so many of you via Twitter and I appreciate the kind words of encouragement everyone keeps sending to the site. They all mean so much to me especially while traveling which is all I seem to ever do these days.

I had a great time on The Colbert Report last night (picture from their green room is to the right). I was super nervous because I wasn't quite sure how Stephen's "character" would behave, but it turned out to be both exhilarating and fun. I even got some shout outs to CC Skye and my friend Val from California. Special thanks to Stephen and his entire staff. They really made me feel so welcome and I appreciate everything they did.

I'm always a little surprised to see what the media (and the blogosphere) latch onto after I write an article for The Daily Beast or make an appearance on a show like Colbert. Of course, the current frenzy seems to be all over my "pro-sex" comments a few weeks ago on the Beast. Obviously, the most sensational part of anything is what sells, But I am very happy that these things always bring new viewers and readers into what I'm working on. That's evidenced by the feedback I get. I'm always encouraged by the positive comments from so many about changing what it means to be a Republican by simply speaking out. Some of you know it can be tough because there's lots of people who are ready to criticize that message, but I know anything worth fighting for isn't easy. Thanks always for your support.

I'll be finally getting settled in New York City over the next few weeks and will have more interesting things to report on. In the meantime, enjoy the holiday weekend and hooray for summer!

Love,

Meghan

 "A Roller Coaster"
POSTED BY MEGHAN

Hey everyone!

I know it's been awhile since my last update to the blog. The last few months have been one of the wildest rides ever and I want to thank so many of you for your tremendous support and for sticking with me through so many of these experiences.

Just a quick update on some things:

  • I continue to be proud to write for The Daily Beast. It's provided a unique opportunity to write on some serious and some not so serious topics. I love doing it and I love that it allows me to express myself in some entertaining ways. And, I'm thrilled to hear from so many of you that you appreciate the humor and perspective of these articles.

  • As some may have heard, I'm incredibly excited about the opportunity to write another book and will have more to share on this in the coming weeks. I think it will surprise a lot of people. It's going to be more thought provoking than some of my critics may realize. I like surprising people and this project certainly will.

  • This past weekend, I spoke at the Log Cabin Republicans convention in Washington, DC. I realize that there's been a lot of media coverage of how it went. I am very proud to have the opportunity to speak on how the Republican Party can continue to find ways to be more inclusive and return to its core values and beliefs. Some photos from the weekend are below.

  • Between writing for The Daily Beast and working on the book, I haven't had as much time as expected to keep the Blogette updated. I'll try my best to do better, but you can always follow me on Twitter. Be warned, it's me uncensored and it's alot of random thoughts and vents. If that's your thing, you'll enjoy it. If not, I understand. You'll want to keep this site bookmarked then for future updates.

  • I was also very thankful to have this site recognized recently with two distinguished awards in politics. McCainBlogette.com recently received the Golden Dot Award for Best Blog - Candidate for Local, State or Federal Office from the 2009 Politics Online Conference. We also won two Pollie Awards from the Association of Political and Public Affairs Professionals. That's incredible and thanks to both organizations for these honors.
Lastly, I want to thank you all again for your faith in what's happening with my life at this point. Most of the messages (nearly 90%) I receive on a daily basis provide enormous motivation and support during what can be a bewildering experience. The ones that don't, well like I said, I think you're going to be surprised.

Love,

Meghan

"Inner Beauty Part 2"
POSTED BY MEGHAN

Well, as some of you have seen, I've been in a few interesting discussions online and on television regarding weight. For those of you who might have missed it, here's my recent article over at The Daily Beast and the posting that I made just over a year ago about "Inner Beauty".

 "Sleep with the Lights On"
POSTED BY MEGHAN

What's Up Everyone?

Things are pretty crazy right now. I leave for New York this weekend to do a bunch of media for The Daily Beast. I will be on CBS's The Early show and Hannity on Tuesday. I will be on Inside Edition and Extra on Wednesday. So everyone tune in! Reminds me of the old days of doing press for the campaign. I still cannot believe the reaction to my recent articles on the "Beast" and I want to thank all of you for keeping tabs on my writings there. Your support means the world to me and I am so very, very grateful.

I love writing for them and I highly suggest everyone visit the site. It is the perfect combination of politics, current events and pop culture (and everyone knows how much I love the combination of politics and pop culture). All the people that work for the site are very cool and it is a privilege to be working for Tina Brown.

I will be taking pictures and blogging about my little trip to NYC. From there, I head to DC to see my parents and brother, Jack. I'll be sure to share what's going on. It is no secret DC has never been my favorite city, but I try and keep an open mind during every trip. I can't help that I feel very blonde and very "west coast" whenever I visit...

Right now, I can not stop listening to this song "Phenomena" by the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. It is the song at the end of the movie "The Ruins" which is officially one of the scariest movies I have ever seen! Anyone that wants a good horror movie should rent it immediately. It gave me nightmares for days!

And I finally am using Twitter. Anyone that wants to follow me can go to www.twitter.com/mccainblogette.

Love,

Meghan

P.S. I am still trying to figure out what tattoo I should get to commemorate my time on the trail. I feel like I am finally ready to commit to some new ink. So far "McCain" in gothic letters on the back of my neck is winning my unofficial survey. Please write in with any suggestions and I will take pics when I finally chose an artist to ink me up!

P.P.S. The title to this post is from the lyrics to "Phenomena"... get it now!

"Viewer Mail Volume 12: Love Connection"
POSTED BY MEGHAN

Wow! OK, I had no idea my recent article on The Daily Beast (link here) would have created such a media blitz. Not sure of it's just been a slow news week or something else, but I just thought some people would find my experiences interesting. I was not prepared for the enormous amount of interest and response to this article. It's literally been like being back in the campaign with the amount of traffic we've received. Thanks to all of you who took the time to write in some encouraging words. I'm thrilled to hear all the positive playlist feedback! And I'm more than a little embarrassed at all the date offers, too. Here's a quick sampling of some of the emails I've received over the last few days. Thanks again for your support! I will be updating about other developments later this week!

Christopher from University Park, PA writes:
I just read your most recent article on The Daily Beast, "Looking for Mr. Far Right." I just wanted you to know that you are not alone in your predicament. I too have had far too many similar dating experiences since the election. I cannot even remember how many times I have had to deal with political conversations on a first date, and many more times even before the first date! ...I don't want to waste any more of your time, as I know you are a busy person. However, I just want you to know that you are not alone. Also, remember that someone as beautiful and interesting as you will eventually find someone great. Best of luck to you. ...Keep up the good work. I have greatly enjoyed your writings both on mccainblogette.com and The Daily Beast.

Mike from Eugene, OR writes:
Very nice selection on your playlists! I can see there is more to you than politics.

Bala from San Jose, CA wrote:
Looking 4 Mr Right - thanks for sharigng the personal way your dad's candidacy impacted you. It gave me more insight, as a dad, into the life of my 18 year old daughter, who just started college. Candidates for high office and close family pay a high price in our current American society. Americans who pin their hopes on a candidate and even those who don't are grateful to both the candidate and their close family. You made a sacrifice for the betterment of our nation, and I hope you will take pride and joy in your accomplishment. I am sure you will run into someone who will appreciate you just for your sacrifices that make you who you are. Be not shy to share the joys and challenges of your unique American experience.

Jason from Chapel Hill, TN writes:
The article was 100% personality and really had me rolling with laughter at work. I can picture some Ivy League guy trying to get her to wear a pant suit and pearls on the honeymoon night. It is too bad that she is not following the foot steps of the McCains by joining the Navy, that would be a long legacy to fullfill. Thank you for the articles and you definetly would have had all the other presidents daughters beaten on the hottie scale.

Nathan from Deerfield Beach, FL wrote:
I am very impressed with your grace and how candid you are. I accidently stumbled on your blog when a friend told me about the interview you did with your mom on the Daily Beast. You are an amazing young lady. Thanks to you and your family for all your class. I am an Obama supporter, but the more I learned about your family the more I came to admire all of you. I am looking forward to following you here and on the Daily Beast.

Jason from Jackson, MS writes:
Hey I just wanted to say that I stumbled across this. I had no idea that this blog was around, and the avid music fan that I am, I checked out the playlists. I must say that you have a wonderful and very diverse taste in music. I was amazed with all the blues stuff. I don't meet many people in our age range (I'm 27) with such a diverse musical palette. I'm sure there are others out there, but music is the passion of my life, so yea, it's cool to see that somebody else knows about every from blues to punk to alt. country. Anyway, I'm rambling. Keep up the good work on the site. I'll be sure to keep checking back.

George from Methuen, MA wrote:
I just read your dating troubles story and couldn't stop laughing. The stories are so great. For a guy to be sitting across the table from a beautiful intelligent woman and only want to talk politics. I'll tell you right off that I supported your dad. I respect him for all he's done for this country. But for these clowns to be dating you just to get near him? What is wrong with these people? Anyways, great story, I feel bad I was laughing at what has obviously driven you mad since the election, but it was a well-written piece with a lot of humor. Best of luck in the future.

Anita from Summerville, SC writes:
I am sorry to hear about your dating issues. You writing is refreshing to hear from an insider's view of how politics literally affects your life down to dating. You last line about a Dad running for office made me LOL. Thank you!

Christopher from Brooklyn, NY wrote:
Your playlist post on March 1st was almost perfect. I must say you have an unreal taste in music; go see Trail Of The Dead live.

Jacob from Chicago, IL writes:
Where is Andrew Bird on your playlist??? You're missing out, Missy.

Erin from Salem, MA wrote:
I think what I like most about your blog is not that you are "John McCain's daughter," but you are just a girl in her 20's still figuring the world out. Like me. Your blog is refreshing, I love reading it. Thank you!

Elsa from Houston, TX writes:
Hi! i just read your story on CNN.com. Loved it! I've never been a celebrity follower because their lives are their own. After reading your piece, I was taken back on your thoughts and very much appreciated your outlook. Thank you for sharing... Good luck on dating!

Jeff from Fort Lauderdale FL wrote:
What brought me to your site is that I read the story that was posted re: Your dating life since the election on thedailybeast. It intrigued me how both sides supporters "turn you off" if they talk about politics. I hope you find someone who likes you for you and realizes the most deadly things to speak of on a fist date are politics and religion. Personally I love your musical taste and have a suggestion to add to your playlist "Everybody's Changing" by Keane, have a listen and tell me what you think. ...Take Care of yourself.

Bradley from Annapolis, MD writes:
Great article in the Beast, you really showed some of the rougher parts of how people treat each other dating, and how frustrating it can be, and you have a great perspective as one of the most overt examples of what can go wrong. For alot of people, saying that I am a conservative is an immediate end to any potential. How many great girls have I not had a chance to get to know because they cannot reconcile political differences? I mean, I'm a senior in college and an electrical engineer, and someone thinks the only thing that defines me is politics. I also can't believe that some people are so callous and manipulative to try and use you as a means to meet your father, its pretty ridiculous. Good luck in your future dating!

 "Hello Again"
POSTED BY MEGHAN

I want to thank everyone for being so patient with me and the site. After the election, I didn't know what to do with the blog because its origin was chronicling my journey with Dad on the campaign. I was uncertain about what my future would be let alone the future of the blog after the election. I am finally now in a place where I am ready to share my life again. And when I mean share, I mean share for real like I used to. No, it will not be as fascinating as it was on the trail, but I can guarantee you it will be fun.

So, what I have been doing? After the election things were very hard. People would come up to me when I was grocery shopping as if someone in my family had died. But slowly and surely, with lots of help from my family and incredible friends, I began to feel like myself again. Then, inauguration day came and the rush of disappointment flooded in all over again. The only way I can explain this feeling is a very bad heartbreak. And, like any heartbreak, it takes time to heal.

I originally thought I was going to rush back to New York. But while I was home I started decorating my apartment (which had previously consisted of my laptop, bed and shoes) and catching up with friends. I like being able to see my little sister Bridget (who will leave for college in a year) whenever I want. We rescued two kittens from the humane society about a month ago. I named mine "Mouse" and she named hers "Bisqut." We have become very attached. I also forgot how much I love the desert and how soothing I find the landscape. Being away from home so much last year had made me appreciate it that much more now. New York may still be in my future, but for now home is here.

As I announced a month ago, I am working for The Daily Beast (a topical blog founded by Tina Brown) and LOVE it. The people are amazing and I like that there are people I worked with on the campaign that work on the site as well. I am also working on some other really exciting projects I am passionate about and PROMISE to share with everyone as soon as I am able. All I can say is that you won't be disappointed.

In the meantime, I will keep you updated on all the little and big things. I also am going to share things I get asked about all the time. From discount fashion tips to healthy snacks that actually taste good and everything in between. And of course, new playlists!

To my readers, thank you for all your support.

Love,
Meghan

 "Today on the Internet"
POSTED BY MEGHAN

Hey everyone. I know it's been awhile since my last post. It's been a pretty crazy month. I just posted a new articles on The Daily Beast you can read here about the state of Republicans on the Internet. I've been surprised at the amount of media its received. It certainly has raised the awareness of the issues so I'm glad the conversation will continue inside and outside the GOP.

In other news, I've been invited to speak at the Log Cabin Republicans convention in April. I am thrilled to have been asked and I am looking forward to it. I'll keep you all posted on planning for that and on other items as they come up.

Click here to watch now over at The Daily Beast. I'm really enjoying being a part of The Daily Beast. It's the right mixture of edge and substance. Please let me know what you think!

 "A New Page"
POSTED BY MEGHAN

First, I'd like to recognize today's importance for our nation and offer congratulations and nothing but best wishes of success to our new President, Barack Obama. I know Dad was overwhelmed by the graciousness showed last night at dinner honoring his service to our country.

I'm also making the first of several announcements about my plans for 2009 and beyond. Beginning this week, I'm going to be writing segments on www.TheDailyBeast.com. Daily Beast was founded byİTina Brown who wrote the 2007 New York Times best sellerİThe Diana Chronicles. Tina is the former editor of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker magazines among others. I will be writing more in depth articles about topics and opinions of the day at Daily Beast while I keep the Blogette for my personal experiences and annecdotes. I hope you'll book both and read my first feature there by clicking here. It's a very revealing sit down conversation with Mom I think you'll all find very enlightening.
