I'm finally getting caught up on e-mails after returning from our trip and have been overwhelmed by your supportive messages. I can't say enough about how much your kind words mean to all of us. Here's a small sampling of the comments we received in June. Thanks again!
Tim from Houston, Texas writes: This is a first in history. This blog alone will bring hundreds of thousands of Americans to the McCain banner. I have been reading if for several months and the whole time have been hoping and praying McCain will win. Being a Veteran myself and knowing what it takes to be in your fathers shoes, I am completely impressed with how you and your family deal with day to day living while on the trail. I hope even after he wins you will continue with this and give us your thoughts and concerns with how life is treating all of you. Also, I have and always will stand in awe of Senator, soon to be President McCain and all he has been through and what kind of a man he has turned out to be as well as How his daughter has turned out. Very impressive. thanks for the Blog.
Nick from Chicago, Illinois writes: I had no idea about this blog, but I am thrilled that you have created such a great outlet for people from "our" generation to see your father through. I was excited about his candidacy when I was in college back in 2000, and I have been a consistent supported since the beginning of this primary. I believe he reaches far and wide, but we must continue to communicate his virtue and credentials to the younger gen. Well done!
Geoff from Raleigh, North Carolina writes: Hi Meghan! I just wanted to take the time to write you and say just how much I enjoy reading your blog - and this coming from someone who usually doesn't read blogs! I love how you bring the whole campaign process to a down-to-earth, personal, and human level with you, your family, and all of the people that you meet along the way. It sounds like an amazing experience - traveling this great country of ours and experiencing all of the sights and people that you meet along the way from all walks of life. Your perspective is unique and effectively conveys what it's really like to be on the campaign trail, with a voice that our generation can relate to and appreciate. I must admit that I am a registered Dem, but at the same time, I have not 100% pledged my vote to any candidate yet. That is really a testament to your father; I have respected him immensely for a long time now. Even if I don't end up voting for him, my respect for him will continue, and I think he would make an excellent President. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to bring the campaign right to our computer screens, and keep up the good work!
Wendy from Bainbridge Island, Washington writes: Hi Meghan! My name is Wendy. I have been a Democrat all my life and was a Clinton supporter. Now that that does not seem to be a possible option, I am throwing myself 100% behind John McCain and will do everything in my power to assist him in defeating Obama. ...I want to help and will vote McCain in Nov, want him to get as large an audience as possible!
Jill from Salem, Oregon writes: Like so many good men, your Dad is blessed to have good women in his life. Getting to know his daughter, wife, mother (and other fabulous women featured on this blog) has been a treat. For the past couple months I've been reading up on Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin, and believe she would offer yet another good woman's influence and would be a real asset in John McCain's quest for the White House.
Lane from Great Falls, Virginia writes: Before reading this blog, I thought politics was just some boring topic we were studying in Civics class. You have inspired me,a young girl, to follow the trail and become interested in the government of our country....which before i thought was impossible!! So thank you, thank you, thank you! Your family has such great positive energy that I would love to see fill Washington! Good Luck!
Dan from Seattle, Washington writes: I am extremely impressed with the quality of your playlists. The broad range of your tastes shows that you have a keen ear and sharp intellect. I am an independent voter and know that a man who raises a daughter to enjoy and respect many types of music is worth listening too about many issues. Keep'em coming.
Brian from Kent, Washington writes: I came across your site from a reference to your upcoming childrens book. GREAT SITE!! As a retired Navy A-6 pilot your father has always been a source of inspiration. He embodies what a real American patriot, who is concerned about his country and it's people, will sacrifice when so many others (politicians included) whine and complain about their hardships and what they need for themselves. He was my candidate the first time and is again. Thanks for the site and thanks for the family time you give up with your dad for our country. I look forward to your book. Brian
Andrew from Boston, Massachusetts writes: Just wanted to express what a great site this is. Your pictures from the Everglades made me want to write. I am a huge supporter of your dad and appreciate everytime he mentions land conservation and preserving open space. I work for a national land conservation organization and it is great to see this type of issue being discussed on the national stage. It sometimes shocks people that Republicans like myself care for (and work for) the environment. Republicans care just as much about the protecting the heritage of their land as anyone (I might argue even more). Keep up the good work.
Heather from Murrieta, California writes: I love your blog! I am pretty certain I will be voting for your dad. I am a Hillary Clinton supporter who is a moderate Dem ... so I know your Dad can be reasonable and work with the other side. I really enjoy and find fascinating the campaign experience from behind the scenes from your point of view. You are very smart to do this. Not only do you appeal to younger voters but you also get a sense of the process that isnt edited on TV. Its very personal and you are brave to do it. Blogging is one good way for you and the public to interact on a level besides the usual. Good for you!
Blue from Redington Beach, Florida writes: This morning I saw an article about your blogette in the St. Pete Times. Your dad gives us HOPE and I thank you for this delightful blog. Wish I had known about it sooner, I can see how it will make my day brighter during the next 4+ months. I just called my 16 yr. old granddaughter and told her to check out your blog and her 12 year old sister may be interested also, because she likes to photograph shoes and feet!!! What a wonderful way to get young people interested in politics in such a refreshing way. Thank you and we will anxiously await your children's book!!
Gerald from Columbia, Missouri writes: I am 60 years old and found this a most interesting sight. After viewing your sight I have a better understanding of John McCain. This has given me the boost I needed to vote for him in the presidential election. Keep up the good work and what a great family.
Deb from Orange County, California writes: I love your blog! Politics from the young eye. Thanks for opening up part of your life to show America a different side to your family. Keep up the good work!
Patty from Conyers, Georgia writes: Me again, Blogettes! I love the pictures from the Operation Smile trip! I'm a longtime supporter of Smile Train, a similar charity. My son, Tim, was born with a cleft lip and palate. We were so fortunate to get the very best medical care possible for him and it's an incredible blessing to give to organizations like Op. Smile & Smile Train and know that you can change a child's life FOREVER by getting a good repair done at an early age. God bless your Mom for her support of Operation Smile and all the families affected by their work. Yet another reason to love the McCains!
Susan from Florida writes: I appreciate the article about Operation Smile. A picture is truly worth a thousand words. Thank you for all the photographs that clearly show what a loving and caring family the McCains are. You three young women are doing an excellent job of honestly portraying the family values held by a presidential candidate and his loved ones. Thank you!
Meshell from Turlock, California writes: I just wanted to commend you on the Operation Smile and your blog. It was so uplifting to see the efforts, attention and support your family is bringing to a much needed cause. Thanks for bringin me my daily dose of inspiration! Keep up the fantastic work!
Jane from Edgewater, Maryland writes: I have enjoyed your blog from the beginning, but felt compelled to right after viewing the 'Operation Smile' segment. I know it is something in which your mother has always been supportive and active, but this really needs to get out and show the "human side" of your family!!! I think this blog is a great way to show your family in a way the media never will, but the public needs to see more of this aspect of the candidate and family. Keep up the good work!
Karl from Castle Rock, Colorado writes: I think you and your mom are saints for the good that you do in this world. Your dad is a hero, and he will get my family's vote in November.
Jake from St. Louis, Missouri writes: While I disagree with a few your father's views I really like your blog. It's good to see a human side to the politicians and their families. No matter the party or the views sometimes politicians just seem unreal - this blog made you, your father John, and your whole family more relatable. Keep up the good work and good luck to you and your family.
Allison from Monroeville, Alabama writes: I think its incredible that you & your mom took the trip & did so much hands on. You girls are going to be great diplomats in the way the world sees America. GO McCAIN!!!!!!!!!!
Leslie from Tampa, Florida writes: I was emotionally touched by this site -- your openness is difficult I am sure. However, when people see who and what is real, it helps everyone see through clearer eyes. Keep up the blogging and telling of an important story. Thank you for your candidness.
Alicia from Overland Park, Kansas writes: I am very impressed by your blog! I am an Independent and I am still deciding who the best candidate is in my opinion. But seeing this side of your father and mother is refreshing and shows just how unselfish and vulnerable they are as human beings. I still have not made up my mind, but having this perspective available has definitely allowed me to identify with you and your family. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to make it happen. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Rachel from Redfield, Kansas writes: I just love your blog! Obama can talk about change all he wants but your girls are actually out there creating it! You walk the talk. Bless you, bless you, bless you!
Jaclyn from Atlanta, Georgia writes: I really admire your dad and your sense of style! Love your blog!
Jo-Anne from Hampton Roads, Virginia writes: Loved, loved, loved, the Operation Smile Vietnam video. The efforts by the non-profit and medical professionals reminded me how truly blessed I'm am to have two healthy children. Despite war, suffering, instability, and heartache - a mom will do what ever she can to ensure her children are thriving and healthy. The essence of a mother's love is what make us all human. This is why I continue to have hope for a future that is overflowing with peace and joy. Keep up the great work!
Brittany from Groton, Connecticut writes: I'm a 23 year old Navy wife and I LOVE your blog! Keep it up, it's fabulous!
Colleen from Pflugerville, Texas writes: If all of America could read what you write and what your pictures show, there would be do doubt about voting for your father. Seeing your mother with children in Vietnam and Cambodia would touch the heart of even the most hardened liberal. They must be so proud of you and your friends for doing such a terrific job on this blog. Keep up your great work.
Jana from Vidor, Texas writes: I appreciate the support that you show for the Operation Smile. My daughter was born with cleft palate. Though it did not show on her face there were still many complications that resulted from this. It was repaired when she was nine months old. But as a mother I know the feelings that it gave me and the relief to have it repaired. I cannot imagine what it would be like for her to have to live her life without it being repaired. I just want to thank you for what you do in supporting this group.
Lori from Newberg, Oregon writes: Thank you again for your blog. It's an adventure to see your travels, especially your trip overseas and the humanitarian organizations. I appreciate it alot. Also good to see you, your mom, and your friends, and get to know you better. Thank you.
Laura from Richmond, Virginia writes: Just wanted to say I really enjoy this blog. I check it every day - I love seeing all the cool stuff y'all get to do. I'm 24 and really relate to you (except for the whole "Dad is a presidential candidate" part...) I like that this blog isn't politics 24/7, because we definitely get inundated with that enough in the media. I really admire the McCain fam - the grandmother is FABULOUS! I can only hope to look that amazing at 96. Good luck with everything!
Michael from Charlotte, North Carolina writes: I love your blog and check it quite often. I especially love the candid pictures you all take of not only yourselves, but of your Mom and Dad. It truly shows that you guys are just a normal family, trying to do what's right for our country and working very hard at it. Good Luck in November, you have a lot of support here in Charlotte!
Kylie from Columbus, Ohio writes: Gosh, I wish I'd found your blog sooner. I'm spending my work day going back through all the blogs and photos that I've missed for MONTHS!! And the playlists - I love looking for new artists, so kudos on that!! I'm absolutely a John McCain supporter and reading your blog has given me many more reasons to support him. Meghan, it's so awesome to take a look at your family from a different perspective. It's easy for people to sit here and think 'oh, they don't know what the real world is like,' but by hearing your 'voice' it allows people to realize that you really are just another American family. You're just an average 20-something young woman, just like me... You all make traveling the campaign trail look like so much fun... Keep up the fantastic blogging and continue making us young Republicans proud...
Susan from Cantonment, Florida writes: Meghan, I discovered your blog yesterday, though I have been visiting the johnmccain.com site for quite some time. You have made politics quite interesting and entertaining. The blog is refreshing and so much fun, and uniquely candid. I especially enjoy the photos and veiwing life on the campaign trail in a new and very personal light. The section in the blog where you answer questions is wonderful and reminds me of your father's town hall meetings. Thank you! p.s. Happy Father's Day to your dad, a true Hero who has courageously served our nation, and who has also done an outstanding job of raising a very intelligent and thoughtful daughter. I know he will be a great President, a strong Commander in Chief our troops will be proud to follow.
Sean from Clovis, New Mexico writes: Congratulations on a cool site. This is the 4th Presidential election I get to vote in, and there has never been a more inspirational candidate to me than John McCain. There is no question that Senator McCain has always put the country we love ahead of partisanship or politics. I have not always agreed with Senator McCain on every little issue, but have always respected the fact that he says what he really thinks, honestly, without pandering. His favored Town Hall meetings is the model of reform I hope to see in Washington come January 2009, as I believe a "Q and A session with Congress" has even been mentioned as a possibility. This is real reform from a real leader. Our generation needs someone like John McCain who inspires us -- the way JFK did our parents -- to "serve a cause greater than self."
Hanna from Los Angeles, California writes: I love your site; it's so refreshing. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with the world. Your photos are so fun, and I am a fan of both of your parents. Your father spoke at my graduation in 2004 (USC), and I think your mom will be one of the most elegant First Ladies in U.S. history. I wish you all the best, and I hope you will continue your blog when you get to the White House!
Karen writes: To Heather, Thank you for sharing your story. Please tell your Grandfather that we all would love to hear his stories and thank him for his service...
Christian from Fort Lauderdale, Florida writes: Hey Meghan - I gotta tell you - I'm glad you have this site. I have always been an independent and I think your father's day gift is great. I think you are a great family with a great history and I think your dad is an amazing man and a TRUE American hero. I am voting for him and any friend of mine (or stragner) that is open to voting for your dad gets the rundown from me. I will do everything in my power to get people to vote for your dad. I was born in Latin America and served in the Army. I am proud to see someone as great as your father running for president in our time.
Sue from Loudon, New Hampshire writes: Your site is great! I just bookmarked it. A different perspective on John McCain. I am now planning on backing your dad (I am a former Hillary backer) and have been reading as much as I can about him, where he stands on the issues, his experience, and now this gives me a family perspective. I will now check your site out on a regular basis. Great job and love the pictures. Especially the Everglades. (I've been there a few times and the last time I held an alligator. Very exciting.) Am looking forward to your next article and pictures.
Joe from Talent, Oregon writes: I just found your blog which is a great insider perspective on the campaign. Thanks for sharing a unique and very interesting view - this is exactly what makes blogging so much more interesting than mainstream media!
Meg from Atlanta, Georgia writes: And you are a great American as well Meghan!!! My children (ages 4 and 6) and I can't wait to read your book. We are so proud to support your family. I was a child of the Ronald Reagan era, and I would love for my children to be able to respect a president in the way that I respected and admired President Reagan. I am praying that our country would be blessed to have such a respectable man of integrity as your father. I don't think there could be a more beautiful and dignified first lady than your mom. God Bless You all.
Don from Philomath, Oregon writes: You are an inspiration for our young kids today. I really enjoy your website on your dad. Your dad will be our next President. I think you could go a long way in politics. I am 80 years old but still able to mend into society. Keep up the good work kid.
Gwen from Celebration, Florida writes: I've been a huge fan of your Dad's for years- but now after finding your blog- I'm a huge fan of yours now! I love that you can give another wonderful angle about your Dad for everyone- he's a great man! Keep up the hard work- it's going to pay off when he's president!
Erin from St. Louis, Missouri writes: Hey Meghan, You are hilarious! I just checked out your blog for the first time & loved it, it had me cracking up. I'll definately be back. The pictures are amazing! Good Luck!
Elizabeth from Coeur d alene, Idaho writes: Hi there!! Just found your blog and as a former Hillary Clinton supporter, since she's no longer an option to go with, I will be voting for McCain-- I plan to work as hard for him as I did for Hillary. While some views and beliefs are different I believe many are similar-- I believe both candidates are pretty moderate and that is where my views lie. ... Anyways thanks for letting me voice my opinion here.
Francis from Lafayette, Louisiana writes: I normally hate blogs, but your blog is different from most... It's actually interesting. That's awesome that you came to Louisiana while on the campaign.
Brian from Michigan writes: I've been checking your postings now and again and I really like what you and your friends are doing. It's cutting edge, it's fun and it shows the human side of your father and your family. Keep up the good work and I'm sure you're having the time of your life out on the campaign trail. Have fun!
Sophie from Houston, Texas writes: Meghan, Thanks for all the great pictures that's been posted from the campaign trail. It's nice to see the many different parts of America and get a personal view of it from you and your friends. We've never heard of Sedona before coming across your site and after checking into it more, we decided to take a trip there. It was amazing! Arizona is so beautiful and Sedona is simply incredible. It reminds me of all the diversity America offers and how beautiful She really is. I'm glad to have come across your site and please keep up the great work!
Ashley from Estherville, Iowa writes: First I would like to express how much I enjoy reading your blog. I feel like it gives me an opportunity to know your dad in a different way and see him not only as a presidential candidate, but also as a father and friend, and see what a goofy guy he can be. Thanks!
Erin from Lake Alfred, Florida writes: Meghan, Heather, & Shannon: I LOVE your blog, which I visit at least once a day (usually more)! Thanks for providing the younger, first-major-election voters a cool place to learn about their favorite candidate! See you in the White House! :)
Nate from Juffair, Bahrain writes: I just found your blog and it's awesome! I love to see the personal side to your family. By the way, I'm a 27-year old Sailor serving here in Bahrain and I'm a huge fan of your Dad. I admire your Dad's service to our nation and I hope he becomes our 44th president. He's got my vote.
Olga from Florida writes: Keep up the good work!!!! I love the insight you give us of life on the road-!!!
Jon from Commack, New York writes: Meghan, I am jealous!!! SONIC advertises on TV, and Cable here in NY, but alas NY has no SONICS!! The next campaign lol should be... WE WANT SONICS IN NY. Peace, Jon
Matt from Centreville, Alabama writes: I just recently came across your blogs out of curiosity of who all is in your dad's family. Being the non-politics kind of guy I am, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blogs. You have sparked a lot more interest for me and it's really neat to see the "softer" side of things. I actually met your dad and had my picture taken with him when I was in Iraq. I have a lot of respect for him and being in the military, I honor his service and what he has been through. Good luck to the McCain family and you know have a new viewer!
John from Oakland, California writes: Hey there. Just wanted to say that I found your blog and think it's great to be able to see "inside" the campaign so well. The accessibility and exposure you're giving your dad is awesome. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Caitlin from Annapolis, Maryland writes: Your blog is absolutely fabulous! It's great to see the campaign from such a unique angle. I'm relieved that we have such a down to earth and esteemed Republican nominee! I wish your father, family, and everyone else contributing to the campaign, the best of luck. Not only do I have a passion for fashion, but have an ever-increasing passion for politics. I'm currently in College Republicans, but I'd like to assist with the campaign while I'm away from school for the summer. If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know! Thank you!!
RJoseph from Nashville, Tennessee writes: HI I just love your blog on everything but especially on Nashville and Memphis. I too am an Elvis fan and have visited Graceland. I am patiently waiting on pictures and blog from Louisiana as that is my home state. Keep up the good work. You have the best blog EVER.
Nicholas from Baton Rouge, Louisiana writes: Thanks for coming to Baton Rouge. I want to say I enjoy your blog and wish you luck this summer with your schedule.
Hope from Little Boston, Pennsylvania writes: Your blog is so insightful! My whole family is in full support of your father and his campaign, but, me being only 15, it didn't much occur to me that politics could actually be INTERESTING. Your blog appeals to all age groups and points of view because it is fun and honest. I tell everyone I know to check it out! P.S. Thank you so much for the post about inner beauty. I printed it out and stuck it on my mirror. You're an inspiration to young women everywhere. (:
Lee from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania writes: I have to be honest, I'm a liberal democrat that is leaning towards Obama, but I'm still on the fence between John McCain and him. But my wife heard about the McCain Blogette and told me to check it out. I have to say, honestly, it is really, really good. It's nice to see the lighter side of what must be a very hectic schedule and I enjoy the family unity you don't always see with our candidates. Being the father of four daughters myself (28, 24, 19 & 12) I always like to see the force women have in the world and Meghan and her Blogettes's seem to embody that. Bravo Zulu ladies. And being an ex-Navyman, I also respect the Senator and his war record, even if I don't agree with most of his policies.
Annie from Hockessin, Delaware writes: WOW!!!! That bumpersticker is the BEST ONE OF THE BUNCH. I gotta get it! You girls certainly do have a lot of fun and the smiles are infectious. I smile myself when I read of your adventures and when looking at the pictures! Keep on going!
Ruth from Clemmons, North Carolina writes: Meghan and Blogettes: I loved your coverage of Wisconsin's town hall. Cheese curds rule! [I called 'em cheese 'nerds' in college.] I especially liked the photo of you looking over your father's reading material from the seat in front of him on the airplane.
Katie from Fort Myers, Florida writes: Hey! Love reading your blog!
Hilary from Washington D.C. writes: I intern for your dad's campaign, and we all love your blog. I also like your playlists alot. Esp. that Teenagers song you had on the last one. I just saw them in NYC, they are awsome.
Sara from Birmingham, Alabama writes: I love your site!! I am a first time voter, and your site has given me a wonderful perspective on what the political trail is all about. It is amazing how this site attracts readers of all ages. I hate it when I have not read your site in a while, because I feel like I have missed out on all the happenings on the trail. Keep up the great work and I am proud to say that your father is the first president I am able to vote for!
Tom from Sayville, New York writes: Checked out Mill Korean at your suggestion while visiting my friend at Columbia. It was probably the best Korean I've ever had (not that i'm an expert, by any means). if you haven't already, check out Eli 'Paperboy' Reed and the True Loves- they are a funky-soul-rock-motown hybrid that serves as both great driving music and good chill music as well.

As we made our way back to the U.S. from our amazing trip to Asia, we stopped in London with Mom to attend a finance event hosted by Dr. Henry Kissinger. I enjoyed living in London a couple of years ago and was thrilled to return. The most surreal moment of the evening was when Dr. Kissinger called me out on blogging about his shoes (see our entry from December 20, 2007 here) and wanted to know how the ones he was wearing compared. We also want to give a special shout out to some of our UK fans for all of their support. We are so excited we can involve you in the American election process!

"Cambodia, Part Three"
POSTED BY MEGHAN
PHOTOS COPYRIGHT HEATHER BRAND
ON 06.29.08 8:11 PM
We're concluding our Cambodian trip coverage with some very emotional and uplifting images from our visit to an orphanage that provides shelter for abandoned children who are afflicted with HIV. Much of this work is coordinated by the Wat Opot Project of Partners in Compassion. Wayne Matthysse, the director, was wounded in action as a medic in Viet Nam, and is a heroic, compassionate man who has dedicated his life to these children whose parents have died of AIDS, and many who are living with this disease. It was overwhelming to see so many innocent children in that situation. However, everywhere we looked, there were glimmers of hope - from the artwork created by the students and the trade classes offered by the staff, to the children's smiling faces showing typical curiosity about our video equipment. We saw loving and caring staff who are dedicated to making life worth living for these children who have been denied so much, so early in life. It has reminded me, at a deeply personal level, of the importance of our nation's humanitarian assistance throughout the world. We as individuals are capable of doing so much if we look beyond ourselves and contribute to the betterment of society on a local or global level.
